Wendell Wednesday

Being that it's October, bringing stuff back from the dead seems appropriate, so here's a blog post for you.

Have you ever wanted to see Quasar team up with the Dark Knight Detective? Well, your wish has been granted, thanks to Super-Team Family. Check out this great cover!

Unfortunately, this is the ONLY cover featuring the Protector of the Universe on that site. At least it was an epic pairing (although I would think Green Lantern would make a better pairing).

Speaking of returning from the grave, there WILL be more episodes of The Quantum Cast. Behind the scenes stuff has been taking it's toll, but that's getting sorted and we will be back!

Deathurge vs The Black Racer

On our first episode, we got into a discussion on Deathurge and Gene pointed out that this character was making fun of Jack Kirby's The Black Racer, specifically in reference to this riding on skis.  What do you readers & listeners think?  Let us know either in the comments or via e-mail. We want to hear from you!

Breaking News!

We can finally reveal the actual reason behind creating this blog, and that is to act as a portal for our new Podcast!  Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you:

Hosted by Jif Fishman and Gene Hendricks, this monthly podcast will look at all things Quasar, starting with Issues 1 & 2 of the 1989 comic series.  You can find the episodes over on the Two True Freaks site.  New episode announcements will be posted here, along with items raised in each show's discussion, like who is on that other poster in Wendell's room?

Another feature of the show will be the Superhero Fight Club, where we ask your opinion on who would win in a fight.  This month's match up is Omega Supreme vs Voltron (the lion one).

Please give us a listen and let us know what you think! Questions, comments, suggestions, and fight club opinions can be sent to Quantum.Bands@yahoo.com.

And while you're at it, check out Gene's other show, The Hammer Podcasts!, also on Two True Freaks.

Quantum Bed Room

Have you ever wondered what a superhero's childhood bedroom looked like?  Well, wonder no more.  Here is Wendell Vaughn's room at his mother's house.

Note the geeky decorations.  Microscope, telescope, and obligatory Captain America poster.

Can anyone identify the second poster in this room?  We were of the opinion that it was classic Giant Man, but it's a bit hard to make out.  Let us know your thoughts!

Things have been kind of dead around here recently, but there are some big things in the works.  Stay tuned.

In the mean time, if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail them to us at Quantum.Bands@yahoo.com.

Quasar Reading Order

Wondering what order to read those comics staring everyone's favorite Cosmic Avenger?  Well, wonder no more!  Just head on over to The Complete Marvel Reading Order to get what issues, and in what order, to read.  Currently the list is only up to 1993 (or issue #48 of the ongoing Quasar series) but it's got 170 entries, starting from Wendell's first appearance in Captain America #217 in 1978!

Which Quasar do you mean?

We here at Quantum Bands were recently asked (by no less than The Irredeemable Shag) which Quasar would be the focus of the blog?  The answer is all of them.  Marvel has had a number of heroes that have call themselves Quasar, and while Wendell Vaughn is the most notable, we'll be covering all heroes using the name.  Here's a run down:

Wendell Elvis Vaughn
Wendell was the first one to use the name Quasar, although he originally went by "Marvel Man".  This is the hero most people think of when hearing the name and the star of the 60 issue comic series that ran from 1989 through 1994.  You'll probably see the most about him here.

Phyla-Vell is the successor to Wendell Vaughn as Quasar, and the daughter of the Kree Captain Mar-Vell.

Richard Rider
The man known as Nova, Richard Rider, temporarily took over the use of the Quantum Bands from Wendell Vaughn in order to save Rider's life when he was separated from the Nova Force.

A member of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, Neutron was originally called Quasar.  He has never wielded the Quantum Bands, though.

Captain Marvel
Although never known as Quasar, and never connected to the Quantum Bands, the Kree Captain Mar-Vell was the Protector of the Universe before Wendell Vaughn.  We'll be touching on him, but like Neutron, we probably won't be spending a lot of time on him.

Who is Quasar?

That's probably a question that you're asking, assuming you got here from a link and didn't search this blog out.  To answer that, we'll look at pages from the Gamer's Handbook of the Marvel Universe (from the awesome Classic Marvel Forever website).
